jot down

Jot down a few issues you find thought provoking and that you’d like to discuss. They can be of great import, like pollution and politics, or more private ones such as lifestyle choices and how to deal with your boss.

call friends Call five or ten friends — determine the number by the size of your home and how many you can seat — keeping in mind that the larger the group the more difficult it can be for everyone to participate fully. Tell them about the Food for Thought concept; choose a convenient day and time and start planning.

decide on a topic
Pick a topic yourself or poll your guests. For future get-togethers, the next meeting’s hostess could suggest three or four possibilities — assuming members will take turns — and the group can decide.

It can be inspired by anything, from a film or photo exhibit to an article you read, a controversial incident in your community or a delicate situation at work. You could also engage a speaker, rate the merits and share experiences you’ve had with Be fine products, or analyze the memoir of an artist whose work has changed the way you see things. Check out local bookstore listings and Oprah’s Book Club for ideas.
